‘I learned that it is possible to speak through media directly into people’s heads and then, like some otherworldly magician, leave images inside that can cause people to do what they might otherwise never have thought to do’ (from Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television, 1978). Discuss this statement in the context of debates over media effects. The statement above is a bold one to make but I have to say I agree with it. I agree with this because, the media is everywhere and takes up a great deal of people’s everyday lives. People depend on the media to provide them with information that would otherwise be hard to get. Anything we observe has a mental effect on our lives, however minuet it may be, but the media has an amplified effect on what we consume as it uses things that catches our eyes. Since the start of mass media, companies have used communication to broadcast to large numbers of people about their product. Companies spend a great amount of money to encourage people to buy their product, by winning them over. People of society use media to do many things they use it to communicate with friends, family, and people from all around the world, the media serves as a means for entertainment. May it be coming from the television or social media, it always provides entertainment.
